Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Telecommunication Technician to install, maintain, and repair telecommunications systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate will work on fibre optic and network installations, ensuring high-quality service delivery and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Examining drawings, specifications, and work areas to determine the positioning and connections for equipment to be installed
Locating faults in telecommunications equipment using instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, and transmission measuring equipment
Attaching wires and cables to appliances
Adjusting, replacing, and repairing faulty items, and testing equipment using electronic instruments
Install, terminate, and test fibre optic cabling systems
Splicing cables and sealing sheaths with lead and thermoplastic
Erecting, testing, and maintaining aerial and underground wires and cables, as well as radio and mobile phone antennae
Installing telecommunications equipment and appliances such as switches, routers, switchboards, and data transmission equipment
Perform lead-in conduit installations, trenching, and pit installation works
Haul and route cables through customer conduit networks and new infrastructure
Conduct fault finding, troubleshooting, and service restoration
Install and upgrade telecommunications equipment in comms rooms and network racks
Complete job reports, test results, and required documentation
Coordinate with customers, supervisors, and project teams on-site
Ensure compliance with workplace health & safety regulations
Experience in IP and data
Requirements & Skills
Academic Qualifications- At least AQF Certificate III, AQF Certificate IV or above (Relevant Qualification)
Previous experience in telecommunications or civil construction works
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in telecommunications or civil construction required
Knowledge of fibre splicing, cable hauling, and network installations
Ability to use testing equipment such as OTDR and power meters
White Card (Construction Induction Card) – mandatory
Valid Driver's Licence
Full car licence is required
Ability to work outdoors, travel to sites, and perform physical tasks
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ciena, Infenera, Cisco, and configuring and commissioning knowledge.
Valid work visa or Australian work authorisation is acceptable
Preferred
Telco accreditations or network provider experience
Confined space/traffic management tickets
Experience working on NBN, Telstar, or carrier networks
