The Role
Based at Southern Ports’ Esperance Port, this 2-year fixed-term Electrician role is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and infrastructure across the port. The role ensures electrical assets remain reliable, compliant and safe, supporting continuous and efficient port operations.
In addition to core electrical duties, the role offers the opportunity to contribute to a broad range of operational and maintenance activities within the port environment, providing variety and exposure to different aspects of port operations.
All work undertaken in this role is carried out in line with Southern Ports’ vision, strategy and corporate values.
Salary:
$79.40 per hour + superannuation
Key Duties
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, switchgear, lighting, and control systems across port infrastructure.
Conduct inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance to ensure electrical assets operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Diagnose electrical faults and troubleshoot issues, implementing effective solutions to restore operations and minimise downtime.
Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to support maintenance, upgrades, and new installations.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders, including reporting asset defects and completed work to support effective planning and asset management.
Ensure compliance with WHS regulations, Australian Standards, and port safety processes, including risk assessments, permits to work, hazard reporting, and participation in toolbox meetings.
Required
Completion of electrical trade certification.
Demonstrated experience in installation, maintenance, and fault-finding of industrial electrical systems.
Exposure to PLC, high and low voltage systems.
Fixed plant operations and maintenance of ship loaders and conveyors.
Good communication skills for coordination with team members, contractors, and supervisors.
Strong commitment to electrical safety and safe work practices.
Required tickets: forklift, confined space entry, working at heights.
Current Western Australian driver’s license.
Practical understanding of WHS as it relates to the workplace.
Preferred
Experience in ports, mining, or heavy industrial environments.
Current high-risk work licences, EWP license, dogging and rigging, excavator,
Instrumentation certification.
