Auto Electrician

Note: This is an on island position

We are seeking an experienced Automotive Electrician to join our team in our busy workshop location in Gununa on Mornington Island with an immediate start for the successful person.

The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.

• Are you looking for a work environment where you will be an integral part of a motivated team then this may be the position for you. We are the only Automotive servicer on Mornington Island servicing and repairs to vehicles, trucks and heavy machines

Some of your responsibilities will include:

• Performing auto electrical maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of the heavy and light vehicles, and equipment.

• Providing field and workshop servicing, fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance to a wide range of Council’s plant ranging from light equipment to heavy earthmoving machinery and light and heavy vehicles.

• Diagnose and repair electrical faults in vehicles, trucks and machines

• Fit electrical accessories

• Update the service adviser on job progress

• Carry out onsite work as required

• Assist other team members as required

• Assist in the training of apprentices

• Undertake training and keep abreast of industry trends

The successful applicant must:

•  Formal qualifications as an Auto Electrician:

• Extensive experience with a wide range of plant and equipment.

• Current Queensland Driver’s Licence.

• Have great problem solving and decision making skills

• Have good communication skills

• Be able to perform physical tasks including bending, heavy lifting and carrying, manual labour and use of hand tools

• Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
