The Intermediate to Senior Electrical Design Engineer is a technically driven, factory-based role focused on producing and reviewing design drawings in AutoCAD for complex LV switchboards, Motor Control Centres (MCC), switchrooms, and custom power distribution systems. You will play a crucial role in the broader project lifecycle and job acquisition process, handling estimating, quoting, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and production liaison. By coordinating and cultivating strong supplier relationships, you will directly support the business in winning new work and ensuring projects come together seamlessly from design through to delivery.
3.1 Estimating & Job Acquisition
Quoting & Estimating: Formulate accurate cost estimates, scopes of work, preliminary bills of materials, and pricing models for switchboards to support competitive tender submissions.
Supplier Cultivation: Proactively coordinate and cultivate strategic relationships with key suppliers and component vendors to ensure technical compliance and secure competitive pricing, directly supporting the successful winning of work.
3.2 Design & Engineering
Drafting & Design: Produce and verify design drawings using AutoCAD for LV switchboards, MCCs, and power distribution systems.
Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly meet AS/NZS 61439 standards and exact client specifications.
Technical Integration: Provide clear engineering intent to ensure CAD drawings are rapidly and accurately developed.
3.3 Production Coordination & Job Management
Documentation: Prepare and review BOMs and technical specifications, integrating them seamlessly into digital workflows.
Testing & Verification: Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and internal product verification processes prior to dispatch.
3.4 Stakeholder Engagement
Project Support: Read and interpret single-line diagrams and technical specifications provided by clients or consultants.
Technical Interface: Interface with internal project stakeholders and external clients to clarify technical queries and support project delivery where required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of electrical design and estimating experience within switchboard manufacturing, OEM, or industrial environments.
Advanced AutoCAD proficiency with electrical libraries and specialised electrical design capabilities, in AutoCad or eplan or similar.
Strong understanding of LV power distribution and custom switchboard design.
Demonstrated familiarity and practical experience with AS/NZS 61439 compliance.
Proven ability to formulate accurate quotes, build supplier relationships, and actively support the business development pipeline.
Ability to accurately read and interpret complex single-line diagrams and technical specifications.
Full working rights in Australia.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
