The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking motivated, professional and suitably qualified individual to join our team as an Electrical Engineering Officer within the Indian Ocean Territories Power Service (IOTPS) based on Christmas Island. About the Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and implementation of project works, including new customer connections and major asset maintenance as required,
  • Assisting in the development of maintenance regimes and planning activities,
  • Leading the procurement and management of technical providers to deliver on a broad range of required power service outcomes,
  • Providing day to day engineering and technical support to the electrical and power station teams, and Power Services Management
  • Ensuring the safe and effective management of electrical, electronic DC and electrical auxiliary systems of IOT power stations, and
  • Providing technical support for overhauls and projects on Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
  • Developing safety policies & procedures in line with industry accepted standards.

About You

To be considered, applicants must possess:

  • An Electrical Engineering Degree that would qualify for Professional Engineer membership of Engineers Australia, and
  • A current ‘C’ class Driver’s Licence.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • demonstrated experience supporting in field or site-based teams in the power industry;
  • ability to work autonomously and positively within a team, with demonstrated influencing ability;
  • demonstrated experience in completing written records of maintenance, testing and inspection activities;
  • demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Work Health and Safety regulations, codes and specifications, specific to Electricity Supply Networks;
  • experience in the application of safe work behaviours;
  • experience living and working in a remote, cross-cultural setting (desirable).

The successful applicant will also be required to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and successfully complete a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.

  • Base salary of up to $127,014* per annum, plus
  • Employer contribution to superannuation at 16% of base salary, plus
  • District allowance payable, starting from $472.37 per fortnight, plus
  • Generous leave entitlements, including 27 days annual leave, plus
  • Relocation assistance if relocating to the Indian Ocean Territories, plus
  • Annual return airfares assistance for you and eligible dependants to Perth, plus
  • Heavily subsidised housing and motor vehicle if relocating to the Indian Ocean Territories

*Base salary of up to $132,095 at the commencement of the Indian Ocean Territories (Administration) Enterprise Agreement 2026.
