The Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Electronic Engineering Technician to join our high-performing team in Tullamarine, Melbourne. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in diagnostics, board-level repairs, and communication systems within a fast-paced and collaborative engineering environment.

In this role, you’ll work across a diverse range of telecommunications and payment terminal technologies, supporting complex repairs, leading diagnostic improvements, and contributing to advanced testing and development projects. You’ll collaborate closely with both local and international engineering teams, acting as a technical escalation point and playing a key role in driving quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Interpret schematics and PCB layouts to identify failure points and assess components for repair or replacement.

  • Efficiently perform board-level repairs on various types of components to ensure equipment functionality and reliability.

  • Collaborate with overseas and local engineering teams and technicians to diagnose and resolve complex technical faults.

  • Diagnose hardware faults and operating system issues in handheld telecommunications devices and recommend appropriate repair solutions.

  • Execute end-to-end troubleshooting and hardware repair for a diverse fleet of payment terminals and bases, including Android-integrated and legacy systems.

  • Modify, develop, and interpret embedded software to support communication system testing.

  • Contribute significantly to the development and testing phase of T650P terminals, assisting in the refinement of repair and diagnostic workflows.

  • Act as the first point of escalation for peer technicians, resolving complex hardware and minor software/PC issues to maintain department uptime.

  • Support development and improvement of diagnostic procedures, workflows, and test equipment.

  • Apply sound understanding of telecommunication terminology (e.g., 4G, RFID) during troubleshooting and configuration.

 The successful candidates will hold the following qualifications, skills and experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field would be advantageous.

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in electronics engineering repairs, with a focus on communication systems.

  • Track record of recommending changes to electronic components, circuits, and systems as relevant to repairs.

  • Proven ability to recommend modifications to electronic components, circuits, and systems to enhance repair outcomes.

  • Extensive background in embedded software development and signal processing algorithms.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong root cause and trend analysis reporting skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of Products - Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be detail-oriented and a team player. 

  • Must be flexible in work duties and schedule.
